Event Details

Swansea High Freshman Academy is seeking judges to help critique our students’ PSA’s about stereotypes.  One of our main goals is to have our students use inquiry to explore problems and create tasks that are authentic and relevant.  Our students have read To Kill a Mockingbird and have been discussing the ways our society stereotypes others.  Now, their teachers have asked them to research stereotypes in order to create a PSA that may be played on the radio or on the television.

In addition to authentic tasks, we want our students to have interactions with professionals, especially those who have knowledge related to the project’s problem and/or task.  We would love to have members of MEBA help us judge these PSA’s.  Students will present 9-12 Tuesday, December 5 and Wednesday, December 6.  Judges may choose the day that best meets the needs of their schedules.

We have 224 students who can choose to work by themselves, with a partner, or a group of no more than three.  We will have several judges so that more than one student/group can present at a time.  Also, rubrics will be shared with judges ahead of time so that we can answer any questions on the day of the presentations.

If you can present, please email Dawn Sargent, SHFA’s instructional coach, at [email protected]  or call her at 803-490-7006.

Thank you!
